Crane Rental FAQ: Chicago
Straight answers about renting a crane in Chicago and the suburbs. Don't see your question? Call (312) 313-9070. Phones are answered 24 hours a day.
How much does crane rental cost in Chicago?
It depends on the crane size, how long you need it, and how far the crane travels to your site. Call (312) 313-9070 with the weight, the location and the date, and we'll price the job for you.
Do you own the cranes?
No. We plan the lift and line up the right crane and a licensed operator through our network of vetted, licensed crane companies across Chicagoland. You get one point of contact from the first call to the final pick.
Do I need a permit to use a crane in Chicago?
Usually, yes, if the crane sets up on a street, alley or sidewalk. That takes a public way permit from the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), and the City also regulates crane use through the Department of Buildings. Suburbs have their own rules. We get the permits for you.
What information do you need for a quote?
The job address, the weight and size of the load, where it's picked up and where it's set (roof, floor, distance from where the crane can park), the date, and a photo or site plan if you have one. A Google Earth screenshot with the setup spot marked works too.
What is a 3D lift plan, and do I need one?
A 3D lift plan is a drawing that shows the crane, where it sets up, the boom reach, the load weight against the crane's capacity, and the ground it sits on. It proves the lift is safe before the crane shows up. Our lift planner, Riley Pettrone, won the A1A 3D Lift Plan of the Year award in 2018 and 2020. Most commercial sites, rooftop lifts and street setups need one.
Does the crane come with an operator?
Yes. Our crane rentals come with a licensed operator.
What areas do you serve?
Chicago and the suburbs in Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane and Lake counties, plus nationwide jobs by request through our partner network.
Can you lift HVAC rooftop units?
Yes. We size the crane to the unit's weight and the distance to the curb, plan the lift, and get the street permit if the crane sits in the road.
